What makes Michaela’s approach unique?
Many of our students have tried learning from pre-recorded videos but have these format very problematic. Michaela is one of the few concertina teachers who teaches in-person in an online format. She able to provide personalized instruction that's in keeping with the oral transmission of traditional Irish music.
Why do you teach in small groups?
Learning with others is a strong motivator to improve. Plus, as our online platform allows individual students to mute, every member of a group can be playing along at the same time, even when one person in the group is getting individual instruction.
How long do the courses take to complete
Each student will progress at their own speed. Generally, it takes at least a year for people to move from one level to another. The length of time it takes depends a lot on the amount of practise you dedicate.
How long should we practise?
We recommend at least 30 minutes a day.
How can I find an Irish session?
We’ll give all our students free access to an online traditional Irish session every fortnight. We’ll also keep a list of other online sessions that are open to the public.
What technology and Apps do I need to participate?
We recommend that you use a laptop or computer to participate. You can however use a phone (with video capacity). You’ll need to download Zoom (a meeting app). Before you take your first lesson, we’ll meet with you online and make sure you can use Zoom.
How long are the lessons?
45 or 60 minutes depending on the size of the class.
